Peer Civic (“we”, “us”, “our”) is committed to protecting and respecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy outlines how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal data in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (“GDPR”).

1. Who We Are

Peer Civic is a collaborative project run by six partners across the European Union. The platform is designed to facilitate dialogue among young people around Europe on political and civic topics. Legal responsibility for data protection rests with Future Cast, W8 Centre, Manorhamilton, Co. Leitrim, Ireland. Future Cast acts as the lead data controller for the purposes of this project. Should any partners act as joint controllers, their roles and responsibilities will be documented and made available upon request.

2. Erasmus+ Funding and Public Interest Processing

This project is supported by funding from the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union. As part of our funding obligations, we may process anonymised usage data for the purpose of research, statistical analysis, and transparency reporting to the European Commission. No personally identifiable data will be used for these purposes without your explicit consent.

In limited cases, we may process data where necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest, specifically aligned with the objectives and legal framework of EU-funded civic engagement programmes. This applies only where such tasks are defined by the Erasmus+ funding agreement or supporting legal instruments.

3. What Data We Collect

When you use our platform, we may collect the following information:

  • Name or pseudonym
  • Email address
  • Forum posts and messages
  • Political views (as voluntarily submitted in discussions or polls)
  • Participation in polls or elections
  • IP address and other analytics data
  • Any data you submit through forms on the site

Note: Some of this data (e.g. political views) is considered sensitive under GDPR and will only be processed with your explicit consent.

4. How We Use Your Data

We use your personal data to:

7. Data Retention

Your personal data will be retained for as long as your account remains active. When you delete your account, all personal and sensitive data will be permanently removed from our systems. Backup copies may persist for up to 3 months before being automatically purged.

8. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to safeguard your data, including secure servers, encryption where applicable, and access controls. All personal data is stored on servers located within the European Union.

We do not transfer your data outside the European Union. All processing is conducted within EU-based systems.

9. Children’s Data

This platform is intended for adult users. While there is no strict age restriction, users under the age of 16 should obtain permission from a parent or guardian before using the platform.

We do not knowingly collect or process data from individuals under 16 without verified parental consent. If we become aware that such data has been collected, it will be deleted.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will notify users through the platform or via email. Continued use of the site constitutes acceptance of any changes.
